“My sheep hear my voice. I know them and they follow me.” John 10:27-28
“I give them eternal life and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10: 29
These two verses from near the end of Sunday's Gospel reading, seem to sum up the Good Shepherd. Jesus is our shepherd, he knows each and everyone of us by name and he will always care for us, come what may. For those of us who follow Jesus, how comforting these words are and what a promise he gives us. Living one's life in the knowledge that we are 'looked out for' can encourage us to live life to the full and to take the risks that take us beyond our comfort zone, for often in doing so one can discover so much more about oneself, others and God. Having Jesus there as our shepherd does not remove all danger but it can be our inspiration to take that extra step in hope. Hope that we will succeed and grow into the whole human being that God calls us to be.
