Yesterday's Gospel reading John 15:1-8 was all about the need to trim the vine in order to encourage new growth. All of us need to cut out the dead wood from our lives, to encourage new growth and development for it is only on the pruned wood that new shoots grow. It can be as simple as sorting one's wardrobe out every year or so or as complex as reviewing one's life and ministry. The thing is though, we need to do it and to do it regularly and our gardens are a good example as to why. When they are tended well, as the garden at the Good Shepherd is, they flourish and the variety is a delight to behold. When not they get choked by weeds as eventually die. Time for a spring clean me thinks!
