Being a Christian means learning about our faith day by day. Our faith is not meant to be a static belief, that once accepted it remains as it is at that point. No God calls us to know more about himself and the Christ daily. We do this by regular times of contemplation and prayer, by reflecting on where God was or is in the messiness of life and from reading things others have written from their discernment of God. One good way of doing this is the regular reading of Scripture.
At present I am pondering the writings contained within the Book of Ecclesiastes - on the surface this Old Testament book is pessimistic even questioning if God exists at all but there is more to it than that. Have a read and see for yourself. I will also be using my pondering as the basis for the retreat address for the Good Shepherd Murrayfield congregational retreat on the Isle of Cumbrae in July. Perhaps you might like to think of joining us and adding your own thoughts to the mix.
