LENT

Collect - said throughout Lent

God of mercy and giver of comfort, you hate nothing that you have made and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent. Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that, lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, we may receive from you, the God of all mercy, perfect forgiveness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Sunday 25th February Lent II

O God, you see that we lack the strength to help ourselves; protect us both inwardly and outwardly; that our bodies may be guarded from all adversity, and our minds be defended from such thoughts as assault and harm the soul; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, word without end. Amen.

Genesis 17:1-7 & 15-16; Romans 4: 13-25; Mark 8:31-38

Sunday 3rd March Lent III

Merciful Father, we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: when we are discouraged by our weakness, give us strength to follow Christ, our pattern and our hope; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Exodus 20:1-7; 1Corinthians 1:18-25; John 2:13-22

Sunday 10th March Lent IV

Mothering Sunday

God of compassion, whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary, shared the life of a home in Nazareth, and drew the whole human family to himself: strengthen us in our daily living that in joy and in sorrow we may know the power of your presence to bring together and to heal; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

1Samuel 1:20-28; Colossians 3:12-17; John 19:25b-27

Collect for the Week

Almighty God, grant that we, who are weighed down by our sins, may be relived and encouraged by your grace; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, word without end. Amen.

Sunday 17th March Lent V

Passion Sunday

Almighty God, your Son came into the world to free us all from sin and death. Breathe upon us with the power of your Spirit, that we may be raised to new life in Christ and serve you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
